AMD Ryzen Z1, Z1 Extreme CPUs for Gaming Handhelds Announced; AMD Ryzen Z1 Reviews

Nokia Pure UI AMD announced its Ryzen Z1 range of ultra-low-power CPUs for mobile and PCs, including gaming consoles. The processors will include integrated RDNA3 graphics cores and will be built on the same Zen 4 core architecture as the current-generation Ryzen 7000 series desktop CPUs. AMD intends to establish a new market for X86-compatible portable gaming consoles similar to the successful Steam Deck. Existing devices, such as the Ayaneo Air series and the soon-to-be-released Ayaneo 2, are based on AMD's Ryzen U-series low-power CPUs, but have remained niche in gaming circles.

AMD has released two CPU models: the Ryzen Z1, which features six multithreaded 'Zen 4' CPU cores and four RDNA3 GPU cores, and the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, which has eight CPU cores and 12 GPU cores. Radeon Super Resolution graphics upscaling, Radeon Chill for power savings, and AMD Link game streaming are all supported by the Ryzen Z1 CPUs.

The Asus ROG Ally gaming portable will be revealed on May (IST) as the first to use a Ryzen Z1 series CPU. Specifics such as the pricing, debut date, and other characteristics will be revealed.

The processors are intended to function with both Windows 11 and other operating systems. AMD stated that devices equipped with Ryzen Z1 Series CPUs will have access to the "full breadth of Windows 11 applications and games," which includes titles from Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

"With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, we're bringing hundreds of games to new devices, including on-the-go gaming handhelds, and we're excited to see AMD investing in new processors to help grow this device category," said Roanne Sones, Xbox hardware chief.

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, which contains AMD Radeon Super Resolution, Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening, AMD Link, and other features, may be used to maximize game play and more.
